The Boomerang

(7-12-01)

It starts at school. Some friends and me are running around the drama area, trying not to get caught. Punk is in the class, which is being taught in front of the stage. On one side Morbid and I appear from behind the curtain. She pulls me back because we have been spotted. We run through the backstage hall full of obstacles. As I am dodging a crate full of costumes I spot an open door. I run into the room to see it carpeted as a house would and fully furnished. In a corner lined with bookcases there is a group of dogs kept in by a gate, one might use for a toddler. I had just noticed that two dogs were loose so I opened the gate to let them in with the rest of them. This didn’t work as planed. Instead only more dogs became loose and I decided that I shouldn’t try and fix this problem, it wasn’t mine in the first place. I then heard someone behind me and searched frantically for an escape. I found a door and ended up outside, which looked like the field of my elementary school. There my friends were sitting under a tree talking. Other people from school now where there too. I then spotted my physical education teachers instructing us all to pick up these large slabs of wood and to throw them into what looked like a huge muddy puddle. It’s looked stupidly easy and pointless to me. I went to the pile and found a very, very large polished slab of wood bent into a V like a boomerang. It wasn’t brown like wood but almost gold. As I picked it up and struggled it over to the muddy pond I had a growing fear it would come bake to me like a boomerang and knock me over. I throw it with all my might to show the others around me I was totally confident. And as I had feared it did come back but only to fall splashing into the murk only a yard or two in front of me. I think a few boys laughed but I accepted my failure to impress anyone. I go back to where my friends had been to find them gone. I was somewhat scared someone had taken my drawing book, which I had left with Punk. I go back inside to the in door commons to find my group sitting near the girls bathroom. I ask Punk if she has my drawing book which she hands over. But she says she has some of her own artwork to give me, as well as my portfolio. I took these cautiously and a bit bemused. From there I found myself in front of the school met up with my Dad. He was obviously there to take me home so I followed him to the car and we drove off, which happened to be on the way to the chiropractor (which he used to do). As I was sitting in the back I was looking up at the sun and every few seconds I would be blinded with the illusion of the boomerang V where the sun should be. The dream faded.
